Max Stoneking, PT, DPT, is a physical therapist, endurance coach, and competitive endurance athlete who founded Elite Edge Sport & Performance to bridge the gap between rehabilitation and performance.
Max works with endurance athletes across the spectrum, from those navigating persistent injuries to athletes chasing personal bests and competitive performances. His approach integrates training, strength, rehabilitation, and return-to-sport planning rather than treating each as a separate piece of the process.
At the center of his coaching philosophy is long-term athletic development. Max believes the best coach-athlete relationships are built on communication, trust, and an understanding that sustainable progress matters more than any single training block or race.
A former collegiate swimmer at Birmingham-Southern College, Max continues to compete in endurance sports with a particular focus on open-water swimming and running. As a coach, he has helped athletes progress from their first 5K through Ironman racing, ultramarathons, cycling events, and competitive endurance performances.
Max is also the author of HowExpert Guide to Triathlons and publishes Study & Sport on Substack, where he writes about training, rehabilitation, performance, and building a sustainable approach to high performance.
